Letters Sent to Newspapers in Reply to Westthorpe Planning Articles

Two articles appeared in the Star and Derbyshire times at the start of December 2013. These were regarding moving plans forward to build on to the Westthorpe site. Paul Johnson, Chair of RAGE, replied to the newspapers as usual through a thorough, detailed and honest argument.

Click here to view the two letters on our Correspondence page (which can also be found under Information and Documents sections above).

WESTTHORPE DEVELOPMENT – HARWORTH ESTATE PLANS

Ask yourself, do you want any of the following:

  • Even more crowded roads?   (the 400+ houses built would bring 900 – 1000 cars),
  • Double yellow lines on Green Lane, Westthorpe Road, Upperthorpe Road and High Street?  (The ‘plan’ shows roads exiting onto Green Lane and Upperthorpe Road),
  • Even less parking in Killamarsh than there is currently?  (Parking spaces are being lost currently, not gained),
  • More crowded surgery, with less convenient appointments available?
  • Your local Primary school of choice being unavailable because of overcrowding?
  • Road works for the next 10 years or more? (The work would be phased over a significant period),
  • Loss of all surrounding green spaces? (Once the Green Belt building restriction is breached other developers, who have put such sites into the SHLAA, will ‘jump on the bandwagon’),
  • Sheffield Road being ‘gridlocked’ for the school runs and rush hour?

Those of you who managed to visit the ‘presentation’ by Coda Planning, on behalf of Harworth Estates, will be aware that the issues raised, and the draft plan shown, were almost exactly the same as those proposed by them over two years ago – which led to the formation of RAGE.  However, the ‘evidence’ introduced to support the bid to swing local opinion was, to say the least, interesting.

It’s Almost Tomorrow – July 2013

Here is the link to the latest fascinating edition of the environmental blog from Dr Roy Turner.  He talks about several areas including the late seasons this year, hedgerow regulations and ancient footpaths. He also pays tribute to a very special friend of RAGE that sadly passed away earlier this year.

The article can be found under Conservation and Photos > It’s almost Tomorrow  and is titled It’s Almost Tomorrow – July 2013 (at the top).

Ann has managed to not only see the two RED LISTED birds; the Cuckoo and Sklylark, but also get a photo of them both! She was so excited to get the opportunity, her hands were shaking as she pointed the camera and aimed for the perfect shot!
